25th August.

Tavs defense of the Les James League Cup will have to wait a little longer as the deluge that beset the County today put paid to any chance of the game being staged at DRG.

21st August.

Another goal for new boy Freddie Latchford and a textbook header from the old war horse Tom Burridge sees Tavs cruising against Henbury but defensive lapses are costly as Henbury come back to level the match at 2-2. The Reserves meanwhile kicked off their league campaign with a comfortable win 3-0 over local rivals Minchinhampton RDS. Click here for the match report.

18th August.

There is always an air of expectancy for the arrival of Kings Stanley for a local derby but it was the visitors who went away happy with a 2-1 victory. A late strike from new boy Freddie Latchford set up a grandstand finish but it wasn't enough to earn Tavs a share of the spoils.

14th August.

Rich Kerry scores the first goal of the new season as Tavs entertain Chipping Sodbury at Highwood. However his first half strike is not enough and Tavs have to settle for a share of the points in a 1-1 draw.

15th July.

The AGM will take place on Thursday, July 22nd at 9.00 pm in the Comrades Club after training. All players and supporters are welcome and encouraged to attend.

12th July.

The schedule for the pre-season is coming together with the first friendly match confirmed for July 24th away at Purton. Click here for the full details of training and friendlies arranged so far.

5th July.

Tavs preparations for the new season get under way this Thursday, July 8th with the first training session taking place at the KGV playing fields in Nailsworth. Meet at 6.45 pm for a prompt 7 pm start. Thereafter, training will be at the same time and place on Mondays and Thursdays. We look forward to seeing everyone back from an eventful 2009-2010 season and extend a warm welcome to all new players who want to be part of the great Tavs experience.

26th May.

A late appeal to the Stroud League to have the Reserves final game against Abbeymead replayed fell on the usual deaf ears as the league again showed their lack of understanding of the events and an unwillingness to listen to any reasoned argument. The Reserves will now have to settle for runners-up in a league they had deservedly won with a team that was not constantly populated with First team regulars.

23rd May.

Cup glory for the Tavs as they come home 2-0 winners of the Les James League Cup against arch local rivals Kings Stanley. Having lost to them little more than a week previously at home in the league and having suffered our worst defeat at their hands earlier in the season, this was indeed sweet revenge. Mike Thornton set things on the road and although Kings Stanley had a number of good chances, they couldn't finish and lacked the passion that was evident within the Tavs camp to bring home the Cup. When Jay Redbond tapped in at the death it was all over and signalled the start of some good old fashioned Tavs celebrations.

18th May.

Despite enjoying the best of the play in the first half, defensive errors prove costly as Tavs finally go down 2-0 away at Thornbury in the final league game of the season.

14th May.

The dress rehearsal for the League Cup final sees Tavs being edged out 1-0 by local rivals Kings Stanley in front of a large crowd at Shortwood. Click here for the match report.

11th May.

Celebrations on the pitch and a huge sigh of relief at the final whistle as Tavs run out 2-0 winners away at Henbury with goals from Chris Preece and a penalty from the almost always reliable boot of Mike Thornton. The win guarantees that Tavs will finish outside the relegation places.

5th May.

With the games coming thick and fast, Tavs Firsts can't quite get that vital win and again have to settle for a share of the points in the 1-1 draw away at Bishops Cleeve. Jay Redbond puts the Tavs 1-0 up but misses a great chance to seal the game before Bishops Cleeve equalise.

3rd May.

Tavs Firsts have to settle for a point at home in the big May Day relegation battle with Berkeley. A clinical finish from Craig Mills was not enough as Berkeley came back to equalise and it finished 1-1.

1st May.

Tavs Firsts could not raise their game to match the heights of the previous Wednesday and have to settle for a 0-0 draw at home to Bishops Cleeve. Click here for the match report. The Reserves are trounced 5-0 in their final game by an Abbeymead side that clearly were not from Stroud League 4. We now have an agonising wait to see whether we are champions.

28th April.

There's nothing like a local derby to give the players extra motivation but with fighting a relegation battle as well, Tavs Firsts stepped up to the plate and secured a valuable win 3-0 at home to Brimscombe. A superb all round performance, a deft, flicked header from Mark Harsant and two quality goals from Tom Hanley brought a rare smile to Manager Dale Russell's face. Click here for the match report.

24th April.

Missed chances could have cost the Firsts dear but in the end their strong defense ensured they captured all the points, running out 1-0 winners against Chipping Sodbury with a fortuitous touch from the shin of Jay Redbond. Click here for the match report. The Reserves title hopes however take a dent as they lose out 4-2 away to Barnwood who are the only team that can now catch them. Goals from the old stager Andy Griffiths and the young gun Olie Portlock are not enough and it's all on the last game next Saturday against Abbeymead unless Barnwood slip up mid-week.

21st April.

Tavs Reserves clinch promotion with a 2-0 win away at promotion rivals Matchplay with goals from Olie Portlock and Jay Redbond. Congratulations lads, now let's keep it going for the title!

20th April.

Tavs Firsts earn an excellent point with a hard fought 0-0 draw away to league leaders Highridge.

17th April.

No game for Tavs Firsts due to a stag weekend but the Reserves maintain their good form with a close win 1-0 away at Brimscombe Reserves, the goal coming courtesy of Craig Mills.

14th April.

Tavs Firsts edge out DRG 5-3 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes in the semi-final of the Les James League Cup. Although the relegation battle is the priority, it's still good to have a final to look forward to which will be played at Brimscombe on Sunday, May 23rd at 3.00 pm against local rivals Kings Stanley. Click here for the match report. The Reserves maintain their push for the top with an important 2-0 win at Stonehouse.

10th April.

Playing their third game in six days, the Firsts looked heavy legged but rallied and seemed to do enough to get a share of the spoils but a late strike sees Henbury go home happy. Click here for the match report. The Reserves march on with a 2-0 win at Gloucester Civil Service with goals from Josh Blunt and Jay Redbond.

7th April.

Tavs Firsts looked to have pulled off an impressive victory over league leaders Highridge, leading 2-1 with an early penalty from Mike Thornton and a lovely finish by Scott Cumberlin. In the last minute however, Highridge scrambled the equaliser with the last kick of the game. Ironically the goal was scored by the league's top scorer who shouldn't have been on the pitch after head butting one of the Tavs players but the incident was unfortunately not seen by any of the match officials. Click here for the match report.

6th April.

The Reserves continue their impressive run with a 6-1 demolition of promotion rivals Whitminster. A brace each for Nick Dodd and the ever youthful Rob Blunt, along with another strike for Jay Redbond and a penalty by Mark Llewellyn sees them nicely placed for the final push towards the league title.

5th April.

The firsts earn a valuable point with a 0-0 draw away to DRG but would feel that the three were there for the taking.

3rd April.

The weather continues to add to the fixture chaos as the Bishops Cleeve ground is waterlogged and despite an heroic attempt by the Tavs ground staff to stage the game at Highwood, the referee had no option but to call it off there too after a further downpour . The Reserves though played through the mud at the KGV to run out 4-1 winners against Stonehouse with a hat-trick from Jay Redbond and another strike from the golden boot of Olie Portlock.

20th March

Tavs Firsts put up a good performance but mistakes are again costly as they go down   4-2 away to the improving Chipping Sodbury. Click here for the match report.

13th March

Tavs Firsts efforts to turn round the disappointment of Tuesday failed in the final minute as Kingswood grab a last gasp winner to take all the points 1-0. Thanks to Tara Ciuriak for his generous match ball sponsorship. Click here for the match report. The Reserves continue their push for promotion with a comfortable win against Quedgeley Wanderers Reserves with goals from Matt Spring, Pidge Hughes and another brace for young Olie Portlock. Click here for the match report.

9th March

A game that both Tavs and the referee will want to forget away at Tuffley sees the Firsts go down 4-0 with 2 sent off and a handful of bookings. A bloodbath you might think but no, a game played in a reasonable spirit just spoiled by an over zealous referee with a penchant for reaching for his back pocket.

6th March

Tavs Firsts nine match unbeaten run comes to and end as they go down 3-2 to a useful Yate side with a couple of key decisions again going against them. Click here for the match report. The Reserves keep up the pressure on the other sides at the top of Stroud League 4 with a convincing win 3-0 over promotion hopefuls Barnwood. Goals from the young guns Josh Blunt and Olie Portlock (2) see them home.

27th February

Tavs Firsts game again falls foul of the weather with Highwood waterlogged. If only the pitch had been laid properly when our illustrious neighbours moved grounds. The Reserves though got their game on at the KGV and routed Longlevens 'A' 8-0 with goals from Matt Spring, Josh Blunt, Darren Peachey, Craig Roberts, Craig Hughes, a brace from the ever youthful, "I'm going like a train", Andy Griffiths and an own goal set up by a lovely run from fullback Simon Larner. Click here for the match report.

20th February

Tavs Firsts game falls foul of the weather with the Thornbury ground snowbound. The Reserves had the chance to consolidate their position near the top of the league with the game against promotion hopefuls Abbeymead Rovers Reserves but capitulated in the second half on a heavy pitch, going down 3-1 with the only real bright spot the goal and performance from Matt Spring.

13th February

Tavs weather a strong comeback from AXA to hold out for another 2-1 victory with goals from Rich Davies and Mark Harsant. Click here for the match report. The Reserves also run out comfortable winners with a 4-1 victory over promotion rivals Chalford Reserves with two goals for Josh Blunt, one for Olie Portlock and yet another for the old maestro Darren Peachey.

6th February

Tavs come from a goal behind again to clinch victory 2-1 with goals from Mike Thornton and Tom Hanley in the basement clash with Ellwood. Click here for the match report. The Reserves also run out comfortable winners again, 4-1 against Charfield Reserves with a brace for veteran Darren Peachey, one from Olie Portlock and yet another for the ever youthful Rob Blunt. Click here for the match report.

23rd January

A game on at last for the Firsts after a six week lay-off but they have to settle for a share of the points with Patchway in a match they would dearly like to have won. Click here for the match report.

9th January

Today marks the first anniversary of the death of Tavs stalwart John "Rab" Hannis. Unfortunately with all games off due to the weather, there was no opportunity to acknowledge it formally.

20th December

Congratulations to ex-Tavs favourite, Spike Thorley who scooped the big money prize in the grand XMAS Draw. Our thanks to everyone who bought tickets, sold tickets and donated many of the prizes. With no games scheduled over the festive period, it just leaves us to wish everyone associated with Taverners a very happy and safe Christmas and look forward to a successful and prosperous New Year..

19th December

Another disappointing day for the Firsts as the game is called off due to the pitch at Highwood being frozen and with no fixture for the Reserves, the only thing left to look forward to on this cold Saturday is the grand XMAS Draw tonight.

12th December

Top versus bottom for the Firsts but they hold out for a 0-0 draw despite a harsh sending off. Click here for the match report.

5th December

A glut of missed chances prove costly for the Reserves as they go down 3-2 to CHQ from the Cirencester League in the County Cup. Date for the diary: December 19th for the Tavs XMAS Draw at the Comrades Club, 7.15 pm.

28th November

Not even the Bowdry machine could save the day as both teams' fixtures fall foul of the weather. Date for the diary: December 12th for the Tavs Chilli & Bowling night

21st November

The Firsts pick up another valuable point with a well earned 1-1 draw away to a good Hanham side in dreadful conditions. Click here for the match report.

14th November

A superhuman effort by the Tavs Ground staff, coupled with the Bowdry water removal machine, kindly donated last season by Electromech, enabled the Firsts to get their Les James League Cup quarter-final on at Highwood, one of only two games played over the weekend due to the weather. The efforts were not in vain as the Tavs clinched their  semi-final place 3-2 on penalties after letting a 3-1 lead slip to 3-3 at full time. Click here for the match report.

7th November

Unbounded joy on Anchor memorial day as the Firsts pick up their first league of the season away at County League newcomers, Kingswood and the Reserves march on in the County Cup winning away at Lydbrook 3-2. The Firsts had to come from behind to clinch the victory 2-1. Click here for the match report.

31st October

Another good performance sees the Firsts pick up their second point of the season against a young, mobile Yate side. Tavs again showed a lot of character coming from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw in a home game played at Brimscombe. Click here for the match report. We would like to extend our thanks again to Brimscombe for all their help in putting the game on.

The Reserves get back to winning ways with a 6-0 demolition away at Charfield.

24th October

Once again, missed chances in front of goal prove costly for the Firsts as they go down 2-0 to local rivals Brimscombe, despite having much of the play.

17th October

A performance that sums up the season to date sees the Firsts out of the GFA Trophy going down 1-0 at home to a good Bishops Cleeve side. Click here for the match report.

10th October

Another improved performance sees the Firsts unluckily coming away with no points against Thornbury at home, going down 1-0. Click here for the match report. The Reserves had to settle for a share of the spoils after a 0-0 draw with local promotion rivals Whitminster Reserves. Click here for the match report.

3rd October

More disappointment for the Firsts as they go down 2-1 away to AXA after being 1-0 up thanks to a superb diving header from Jay Redbond. Click here for the match report. The Reserves though had a good day in the County Cup winning 3-0 away at Kingshill Sports with an own goal setting them on their way followed by great strikes from Josh Blunt and Tom Green. Click here for the match report.

26th September

The Firsts gain their first league point of the season with a 1-1 draw away to Ellwood with a goal courtesy of Jay Redbond. Click here for the match report. The Reserves though suffered their first defeat in the league going down 2-1 at home in another local derby to Chalford Reserves with Josh Blunt the only bright spot, netting again. Click here for the match report.

19th September

Mixed fortunes again as the Firsts lose at home to Rockleaze Avonside, 2-1 with a Mike Thornton penalty the only consolation. Click here for the match report. The Reserves march on though with a 4-2 win at home to local rivals Brimscombe with goals from Niclk Trinder, an own goal and a brace from veteran Rob Blunt.

12th September

Mixed fortunes as the Firsts lose again, 2-1 away to Patchway but the Reserves record a good win in the league, 3-1 at Uley . A very hot day and a big pitch may have been contributory to the Firsts defeat but there was also a suspicion of offside as they fell behind after 15 minutes. The remainder of the half was fairly even with chances created at both ends and both keepers pulling off smart saves. After conceding again in the second half, Tavs kept pressing and were rewarded when Tom Hanley scored but despite creating further chances, couldn't convert one to get something from the game.

The Reserves recovered from a goal down to run out comfortable winners at Uley. James Darby headed home to level the score before Tavs lost keeper Rob Mills just before half time with a cracked shin bone. Josh Blunt set up Olie Portlock to slot home and the victory was sealed when Argentinean superstar sub, Favio Patino unselfishly squared the ball for Rob Blunt to slot home.

9th September

No Charity Cup glory either for the Firsts this year as they went down 3-1 at home to Berkeley. Looking to start well after Saturday, Tavs were again plagued by defensive mistakes which proved costly and the game gradually slipped away as Berkeley built up a 3-0 lead. A Mike Thornton penalty gave them brief hope but Tavs were unable to crack the Berkeley defence.

5th September

Bad day for the Club as both sides lose, the Firsts in a big local derby against Kings Stanley and the Reserves in the Charity Cup against Trident.

The Firsts couldn't have started more badly, conceding a goal within the first minute with some poor defending. However, they battled back into the game and Rich Kerry levelled the score when he beat the Stanley keeper to the ball. Matt Spring then forced the ball home after another defensive mistake by Stanley only for the Tavs to let that slip with more defensive errors of their own. A classic strike from Jay Redbond before half time saw the teams go in level at 3-3 but Tavs completely capitulated in the second half and fell away to lose 7-3.

The Charity Cup holds no promise for the Reserves this year as they went down 2-1 at home to Trident, the only bright spot being a goal for veteran Rob Blunt.

29th August

Mixed fortunes for the Club as the Firsts let a two goal lead slip to lose 3-2 away at Berkeley although the Reserves opened their league campaign with a 2-0 victory at home to Matchplay.

A rampaging run from Craig Roberts saw him set up Rich Kerry to slip the ball past the Berkeley keeper to take the Tavs into the interval 1-0 up. Mikey Thornton then converted a penalty to see the Tavs looking to take control but unaccountably then let the game slip away, firstly conceding a penalty followed by a well taken strike and finally another penalty to round off what turned out to be a miserable afternoon.

The Reserves though are off to a good start in the league with a fairly comfortable win over Matchplay at the KGV with goals from Ollie Portlock and Josh Blunt.

26th August

A disappointing start to the league campaign saw us go down 2-0 to a DRG Stapleton side that bore little resemblance to the one we played last season. This was followed though by a narrow away win 1-0 in the League Cup at Hanham courtesy of a Mike Thornton thunderbolt from a yard out.

The AGM which was postponed because of the previous League Cup fixture will now take place on Tuesday September 1st at the Comrades Club, commencing at 8.45 pm after training.

20th August

The First team open their league account this Saturday against DRG Stapleton at Highwood following on from their penalty shoot-out win over Ellwood on Tuesday night in the Les James League Cup. The reward for that victory is another away trip, this time to Hanham, next Wednesday August 26th.

4th August

The AGM, which was due to take place immediately after training at the KGV tonight, has been postponed due to the heavy rain. Watch this space for the new date.

19th July

Dale Russell has confirmed that he will continue as First Team Manager. He is also delighted to announce that Ryan Gannaway will also continue as Assistant Manager and Coach. The dynamic duo of Mark Llewellyn and Simon Larner have also agreed to lead the Seconds in their push to progress up the Stroud League.

Tetbury have had to cancel the friendly against the Firsts so training next week will be as normal unless we can arrange another match. New players are still being sought to strengthen the squads so if anyone fancies trying out the Tavs experience, they should come on down to the KGV. Keep watching for further updates to the friendlies schedule as more games are being looked for.
