Tavs entertained mid table AXA and came away with a hard fought victory. AXA arrived with a new strike force of Greg Rogers and J.Y.Cai and it was the latter who caused Tavs numerous problems throughout the game but particularly in the opening period. Twice Duane Portlock saved superbly from him in the opening ten minutes and then when his lob did beat Portlock, Mike Thornton was there to clear from the line. Tavs hung in there and were forced to play on the counter attack but began to look dangerous on the break.eIt was through somewhat fortunate circumstances that the home side went in front on 30 minutes when the ever willing Rich Davies broke forward and his intended cross ended up deceiving Tom Sheppard and ended up in the far corner of the net. With Thornton now picking up Cai and shackling him, the home side were now able to cope better and on the stroke of half time had the bonus of a second goal when a long ball found  a big gap in the centre of the AXA defense and as the visitors looked for an offside that wasn't there, Mark Harsant seized the opportunity to calmly place the ball beyond Sheppard.

AXA threw everything at Tavs at the beginning of the second period but just as Tavs looked to have quelled the initial onslaught Thornton was harshly adjudged to have fouled Rogers in the box in the 56th minute. Ex Forest Green player Steve Winter, the AXA player manager, stepped forward and clinically dispatched the penalty. Tavs were now up against it but stuck about their task with great doggedness as the visitors found a human barricade in front of them. With twelve minutes to go AXA won a freekick in a dangerous position just outside the box and up stepped Cai. The free kick was well struck and placed, with the visitors arms already in the air to celebrate but Portlock dived full length and made a wonderful save just inside his left hand post at the expense of a corner. Tavs continued to defend in numbers and to play well on the break and were able to see out the game to earn their hardest three points of the season.

This Saturday Tavs travel to third placed Thornbury Town KO 2pm
