Taverners slumped to their
first defeat of the season on Saturday to resilient Chalford side. Taverners
never got started in game that they were completely outclassed and out played
from the first whistle. Chalford pressed Taverners for the full 45 minutes of
the first half and were very unfortunate not to go in leading at the break.
Taverners responded to a half time chastising and started the second half on
top. They went in front 10 minutes in thanks to pressure in the box by Josh
Blunt produced an own goal. Chalford were soon back on top and dominating
proceedings, heaping pressure on the Taverners rear guard without producing any
real clean cut openings. This came to an end with 20 minutes to go when a
defensive mix left the Chalford striker with the simple task of slipping the
ball past the helpless goalkeeper from 6 yards out. From then on it was all
Chalford again with Taverners scrambling to reach the final whistle and get
something out of the game resorting to clearing their lines and hoping for an
opening that could see them snatch the points. It never came and, with 5 minutes
to go in the game Chalford clinched a well deserved 3 points when good work from
the centre forward saw a deflected shot off Andy Stratford fly past the helpless
keeper.
