Taverners returned from the forest with their first point of the season. The game did not start well for the visitors though when Byron Radford lost Tom Burridge at a corner and headed powerfully home after just five minutes. Tavs then had to ride their luck when they lost possession and Ryan Pendry was played through on goal lobbing stand in keeper Rich Kerry but Tavs were relieved to hack the ball away after the ball came back off the crossbar and minutes later when they failed to deal with a vicious in-swinging free kick the ball bounced up and again struck the crossbar. The final fifteen minutes of the half saw Tavs gain the upper hand and they had two good chances to draw level when great harassing from Jay Redbond saw him block keeper Clayton Hook's clearance but Andy Griffiths effort was blocked by a retreating defender at the expense of a corner. On the stroke of half-time Chris Preece headed over Tom Hanley's corner when well placed.
The second half saw Tavs dominate proceedings
and eight minutes into the half were level. Redbond spread the ball well to
Hanley and arrived in the box to collect the well measured return, taking
one touch before finding the far corner off the net for a good goal.
The visitors then broke with a two against one
situation but Tom Stubbs pass forced Redbond slightly wide allowing Hook the
chance to smother the effort. Redbond then had another great chance but headed
over with the goal at his mercy. The foresters for their part only caused one
moment of anxiety when Kerry was caught in two minds whether to kick or collect
and was closed down but good defending retrieved the situation. A good
performance by Tavs with Mike Thornton man of the match.
