Tavs travelled back from east Bristol with a good away point against a useful Hanham side. The game was played in diabolical conditions and the home side had Tavs on the back foot for large chunks of the game. Hanham started strongly and Tavs were relieved when a free header was headed wide from a corner. Duane Portlock then saved well from a good flighted shot stretching well to tip over the crossbar as the home side continued to threaten. Tavs began to win a few free kicks round the halfway line and with the superb deliveries of Mike Thornton, began to threaten the Hanham goal and it was from one off these deliveries they went in front on 26 minutes when the free kick caused a melee in the box with Tom Burridge, Jay Redbond and Grant Henderson all having efforts before the ball crossed the line with confusion as to who had the final touch. The next fifteen minutes saw Tavs enjoy their best spell of the game. A good header from Tom Stubbs was saved by keeper Ash Bryan and then a great cross from Chris Preece found Henderson at the back post but instead of stooping to head the ball tried to bring the ball under control and what was a good chance was lost.
The second half saw the home side dominate proceedings but found the Tavs back four of Craig Roberts, Ian Preece, Paul Jennings and Thornton a difficult one to breach. When they did break through they headed a good chance at the near post wide and Jennings produced a great block to save a certain goal. The persistence of the home side paid off in the 70th minute when a great ball across the face of the Tavs goal saw Roberts and Hanham's Jay Owen desperately trying to reach the ball at the far post. Neither reached the ball but the referee deemed that Roberts had infringed his opponent, with the impressive Nathan Bryer stroking home the resulting spot kick. The home side sensed victory but found Tavs digging in doggedly and some great blocks and interventions ensured Tavs went home with a share of the spoils which was well earned.
This Saturday, Tavs are at home to Bishops Cleeve, KO 2pm
