Taverners, after an excellent first half display allowed Patchway to leave with a share of the spoils. The home team showed no signs of a six week break as they tore into their opponents from the off. The returning Jamie Bish lobbed just over and then keeper Martin Alford smothered at his feet. A good strike from Tom Hanley forced a good save from Alford and the keeper again smothered at the feet of Russ Chamberlain as Tavs peppered the Patchway goal. Tavs continued to rip the visitors apart and a good move resulted in Hanley delivering a perfect cross for Rich Kerry but with the goal at his mercy he headed wide of the target. Just as Patchway began to stem the endless attacks, Tavs took a deserved lead on 33 minutes when another cross played in from the right was mis-kicked into his own net by a retreating Patchway defender.
Tavs could just not get their game going in the second period and as the game
turned scrappy and niggly for a while the visitors began to take control of. The
home side still looked comfortable but they allowed the breaks in play to affect
their concentration and with fifteen minutes to go paid the price when the
impressive Matty Webb lobbed the back peddling Duane Portlock with an exquisite
finish. The visitors who probably could not believe they were still in the game
now sensed victory and with eight minutes to go Portlock saved superbly from
Rugman and in the dying moments Tavs were relieved to see Tim O,Loughlins strike
just clear the crossbar.
